Storevault S500
For the business with smaller storage and backup demands the Storevault S500 from NetApp provides a SATA disk based unit with iSCSI or Fibre Channel connection offering many of the features and functions of the enterprise FAS range.
Limited to a maximum capacity of 12 500Gb SATA disks, the Storevault S500 can be used as a SAN and/or a NAS, can use dual parity Raid DP with non volatile RAM (NVRAM) and offers dynamic expansion and contraction of data volumes along with the ability to snapshot file systems up to 255 times.
For added security and protection multiple Storevault devices can be used for one-to-one, one-to-many, many-to-one or round robin replication.
Fitting into a backup regime, the Storevault S500 will enable you to use your traditional backup software e.g. Symantec’s Backup Exec to backup your data to disk. With Backup Exec version 11 you can take advantage of the NDMP (network data management protocol) to copy files directly from the Storevault to a SCSI attached tape drive - without having to pull data back through the backup server.
