Flexible Working Project for a Charity with around 15 employees
The Challenge
A charity, with around 15 employees, had two sites in Norfolk and was moving one to a new location. On one site the users had a Microsoft Small Business Server but on the other the PCs were completely stand alone. The charity was considering purchasing another small business sever for this office to provide shared file and print services to users.
The Solution
EACS suggested an alternative solution using server-based computing. This would enable users at both sites to access and share information and applications from the existing server.
A VPN connection was set up to link the two offices and Citrix Presentation Server was used to provide full access for users based at the old office to the IT systems at the new office. The solution was extended using Citrix Access Gateway to provide access to IT systems from any internet enabled PC. This will enable employees to have flexible working options e.g. working from home. It also provides a level of business continuity as users don’t have to be at the office to do their work.
This alternative solution should be much easier to manage than running two separate IT networks.
