Citrix has announced that Citrix XenApp™ 5 will be released for general availability on 10 September 2008. The latest release of XenApp – the new name for Citrix Presentation Server™ – simplifies management and support, while improving the end user experience.
Building on the success of Presentation Server 4.5, XenApp 5 introduces significant enhancements for application streaming and isolation, a completely redesigned, easy to use end user experience and powerful end user performance monitoring tools. In total, XenApp 5 includes more than 50 new features and enhancements that simplify and streamline management and support, while reducing the total cost of ownership and improving the overall end user experience.
What’s new
XenApp 5 delivers new and enhanced functionality, while extending the Microsoft Windows Server® 2008 and 2003 platforms. With more than 50 new features, highlights include:
- Inter-isolation communication simplifies how virtual applications are packaged, maintained and updated and ensures that applications interoperate as if they were installed locally
- Support for application streaming via HTTP and HTTPS provides more flexibility for application delivery
- A redesigned, intuitive and consistent user experience on the desktop and over the web
- The ability to prioritise users and applications to ensure the best experience for critical use cases
- Expanded monitoring provides rich data into the user experience to enable faster and better assessments of performance issues
- XenApp farms can now contain both Windows Server 2003 and 2008, allowing customers to begin migrating to Windows Server 2008 right away
